With all the discussion of As Is on the "RI News" topic, I think it deserves its own thread. I'd seen that Amazon ad as well, but wasn't sure if now was the time to bring it up with all the hurt the family is feeling. I'm glad someone did, though. Guido expressed my sentaments well. But, right or wrong, there are old fans just becoming reacquainted and hearing of the CD for the first time, as well as collectors, and the simply curious. So a demand is there, and a dealer will seize the moment for profit. Isn't there some way the family could re-release it, with a portion of proceeds going to Katrina victims, or some kind of charity in Barry's memory? It would be nice to feel that at least something good could come from this tragedy.

Well, there's also the music that Barry was sharing at TORI 2003, about half a CD's worth of material, and apparently, he had other music about finished. Hopefully, the right thing can one day be done with all of this music, with any profits going to the right place and the right people.

You are right...it does deserve it's own thread. I think it is appalling that Amazon is wanting to cash in on such a tragedy...and I will not be buying anything from them again. When everything settles down, and the family gets to recover a little, I will be the first to start my collection afresh...from them, knowing that the proceeds will go to them and only them. I personally know a lot of Katrina victims, but Barry seems to have hit the hardest. I will be watching the website for news on how we can be of service. May God be with the family.

It's not really Amazon itself, it's an independent seller...anybody can go on there and sell used CDs, like Ebay. That's what's going on.

Yes, I thought about entering a "review" that stated what we thought of the seller. What they are doing is legal, I guess, but it sure is unethical and it MIGHT embarass them off of there. then again it might not. It's so easy to pirate things and with no big label to enforce their copyright (if there was one) I don't think thee is much that Amazon can do.

I thought about putting a "review" out there too. But if someone really wants it, they are going to pay it because it is out of print. Like Moss-E said, wouldn't it be nice if it and the TORI 2003 songs could be put together and issued, with the money go to his kids, some sort of memorial fund? Having worked is a music store, I know that when a musician dies, their sales go up but I still find it hard to believe that the seller on Amazon has that much nerve. Takes all types I guess.

Ive been listening to As Is all day. I miss Barry so much. I've met him twice. I remember at the benefit concert for Billy I gave Barry a B-day card and I told him how much I loved him and he gave me a kiss on the cheek. He also signed my Cowsill album. I loved Barry so much. He was such a great guy. Even though I've only met him twice I feel like I've lost my best friend. That was the impression he left on you. He was so caring and had the best personality that made my mom and I both laugh. I will never forget Barry. He is and always will be a legend in my eyes and also a huge inspiration to me. I actually wrote 2 songs about him today. Thats how much he meant to me. Thanks everyone for listening. Peace,Karey M. Miller

Man, that sucks about that gouger on Amazon. I tried to put in another review but it wouldn't let me. I hate the thought of Barry's death being capitalized upon. BTW, I still can't listen to AS IS yet. I can't get through to the first chorus of "Train." Someday soon, though.

Though it is comforting to hear his voice, knowing that it cannot be stilled. I still start to lose it even before the first bar of Train begins. Rufus (AKA :'(ing Roger)

Hey, Roger-Rufus! great to hear you're back in the land of the living. Do tell all about your holidays, etc. If you want, email me at crmspencer@fsmail.net (I'm not sure what the PM set up is on this temp board).
best wishes, Cynthia

Rosebud, Well, the Cowsills *do* have Robin Records; I'd imagine that at some point, they might issue a 'memorial edition' of "As Is". -Skippy

Well, as you might know from the original forum, I referred to the seller on amazon.com as a scum sucking bottom feeder. I checked there today and he's now selling "As Is" for $195.00 a cd. He has now achieved the title of "uber" scum sucking bottom feeder and I hope some day the Cowsills call him on this autrocity.

Shirl, If the Cowsills do choose to take action against that "poor excuse for humanity" and believe me I am being polite here....I will be right behind them. I thought it was AWFUL that he's kept raising the price since it was announced that Barry was missing. What is WRONG with PEOPLE? ?? I thank God for good, honest people like the Cowsills and their fans. If it weren't for all of you and them, I'd seriously be losing my faith in the human race right now. Lauren

good afternoon, group! I agree with all of you on the "jerk" on amazon. the 125.00 was way before we ever knew of Bee's passing. Lauren, if you read this, or anyone who is kind enough, I know most of you can't bare to play AS IS---yet, but is anyone willing at some point & time to burn me a copy of it & make a copy of cover from front to back? Please email me or post a price you'd charge for it before doing. I only have The We Can Fly CD & most LPs & a few 45's. I need to get stereo fixed badly:( I want to play Covered Wagon!!! Thank you to anybody that replies back:) Hugs to all!! A hurting fan:(

Terri, I lost the AS IS tracks a few weeks ago when I had to reformat my hard drive..however, someone is in the process of sending them to me again. So, as soon as I have them all, I will let you know and burn a CD for you or anyone else who wants one. As far as the cover, I'll find someone who has the original cover. I wouldn't THINK of charging a fellow Cowsill fan for just burning a CD! Heck, it only takes a few short minutes. Barry would KILL me! He would just want us to enjoy it Lauren

Not to be cynical or anything, but y'all be careful that you "know" the cyber-buddies that you are so generously willing to share Cowsill music with. Under the rip off circumstances, as those above with the Amazon seller, I wouldn't put it past others to pose as long-time fans in order to take advantage of our generous personalities. I know that you would hate to see pirated copies of music out on eBay, etc. trying to profit from Barry's passing...

Excuse me, "guest"...... But THAT is NOT my intent!! I have a rather large LP & 45 collection! I also have all but a few of the Cowsill's LPs. I'm not stupid like that JERK on Amazon.com to sell any of my music for a profit of a deceased singer! I was NEVER brought up like that in my 50 yrs. on this planet!

I just heard three tracks from As Is for the first time, thanks to the NOMRF podcast. I wish I could have purchased the album when it was released (but I was a single mom back then and every penny counted -- so I had NO entertainment budget for a few years). If someone would be willing to burn the CD for me -- or at least Ol Timeless -- I'd be forever grateful. I've just cried my way through that very haunting song. Amazing music!

I tend to agree with "guest." I don't think the post was accusatory, just advising a little caution. The thought of someone profiting from this tragedy makes me bristle; but, on the other hand, I don't much like the idea of Barry's work being shared for free, either,... even if it is with other fans. There are a lot of fans out here, as the memorial book is testimony to. Barry's music will live on, and there's no rush to hear it right this minute. It's been admitted that the wounds are a little too raw at the moment anyway. So why not just wait a little bit. Give this family some time. Then let them decide how they'd like this music made available, and how our contributions can be of help.
