I can't be there in person either but will light a candle and say a prayer for Barry and your family Bob. I'd also like to thank you for including the fans at such an important time, it really does mean alot. God bless, Jane, Jenna and Kelli R. Janer, it's so good to see you on the board. IM me again sometime, ok???

I know this will be forthcoming but what is the address for Halidon Hall? We want to get our hotel room reservations set because of the distance we must travel. Thanks!

I've never been to Newport. Is there a hotel that cowsill.com people prefer? I'm only at the investigation stage but wondered if anybody has thoughts on this. Thanks. Brina..........there's a "Hampton Inn" in Middltown, next town over from Newport. It's a decent place....clean.....pleasant....moderately priced and free breakfast in lobby........and I think only 3 or 4 years old...... I stayed there when I saw Barry at "First Night."

If you ask around on this board for some RI locals to help you out with transportation, I'm positive you'll find someone. It's really amazing but I never have to worry about getting somewhere when I'm in CA or RI...the locals got it covered and are always ready to help. All ya gotta do is ask. ;D

I did quite a bit of looking online last night at the hotels in Newport and Middletown. I guess I'm going to sound like a "princess" but I'm kind of fussy about things like clean linens, good bed, and nice clean bathroom and more than just a bagel and coffee for breakfast. Anyway I'm still researching. I know some Hairheads have stayed at the Jailhouse Inn (what an interesting looking place) as well as the Holiday Inn Express in the past. I do have to bring work with me. I need that very important wireless connection in my room, so that's part of my decision. I still can't believe my first visit to Newport is for this reason.

Hi Brina! Hi Pam!
Best Western Mainstay is fine, but I have no idea about the wireless hook-ups there, several people are staying at Holiday Inn Express in Middletown, which is a nice place, again, you'd have to check about wireless.
There are several "upscale" properties in Newport, as you might guess.
I would suggest browsing on Expedia or Orbitz....you usually get lots of information on the properties there. Also, I've used tripadvisor.com to get advice.....you get honest reviews from people who have stayed there.
If I can help at all, feel free to e-mail me at: clong16@cox.net

I just read the most hilarious "user review" about my hotel (Inn At Newport Beach) where the user in question acts as if she barely survived the filthy conditions therein....wondering if she would have the same reaction to, oh, say my house, or anywhere else that is an older property? This place is "historic" in hotel parlance that means EXTREMELY OLD so I don't expect it to be like a suburban model home... Those Newport hotels are so expensive that I think it would have to be really, REALLY bad to make me switch over to the Marriott or whatever! Go to tripadvisor.com for user reviews -- although I have to say the hotel we just stayed in last weekend in Catalina had a couple of "DON'T STAY HERE" panicky messages and I'm starting to think that some people just kind of like being mad customers, as it was perfectly fine (although no frills) as it turned out. The hotel the Jan Bashers are staying in also has some 'NEVER EVER!!" type reviews....I guess we will see how accurate they are very soon! Hi Brina! Hi Pam! Thanks for the invite Shirl....I think Minnesota will be represented by Brina and myself at chat on the 18th. Talk to you then if not sooner....I wish people would be in the room more often, everytime I go it's empty! Again, thanks, Janer

Mike here, I haven't said much,I would'nt know where to begin he only lived with me on and off for about two years. I must say I and all of his close friends were upset at that fellow at billy's using the "Raccoon's" hat for a cheesy collection,I tried to stop it but he was too quick for me, I grabbed it back and secured it from any further nonsense. The "Raccoon" and I were both hat guys and thats why I figure he gave me that one. The tan hat with the drawn peace sign was a big part of my sometimes pain in the neck sometimes buddy, but always friend. Senior family member present on th 18th can decide who should take it. My thoughts are with you all over the loss of Barry. Mike Pine,Newport,RI

I'm coming and have booked a room at the Viking for Friday and Saturday nights. It will be good not to have to drive to and from the gathering Saturday night. Also, if anyone needs help getting to the Providence Airport on Sunday afternoon, I will be headed there for a 6 p.m. flight home, so keep that in mind. I'm sure we'll all help each other and network, carpool, etc.
P.S. My experience of those traveler reviews online is that mostly people who are dissatisfied go on to post a review. If you're happy, or moderately happy, with where you stayed, you don't usually make the effort. So the results are rather skewed in the negative direction.
