Set List January 14th, 2006
Well, I can’t say that it was a somber and solemn occasion.
There were many toasts to Barry and some reminiscing in the pub crowd but the band - Bob, John, Robby & Bobby G - just rocked the night away
and kept their thoughts to themselves. There were a lot of hugs going around between sets
and one can only imagine the sorrow being expressed in private, quiet tones.
We had a great crowd that included a couple of Barry’s previous roommates, some of our usual cast members of “The Bob Cowsill Band“ musicians, as well as some of John’s current bandmates.
Yes, we had three Beach Boys band members in the house!
Both Randell Kirsch and Scott Totten came with their lovely ladies.
Gunnar and I joined KathyR & Damon then both Vicky and Kelly joined us.
The place was PACKED and poor Kelly ended up with The Big Green Monster from Fenway parked against her knees. (Tall and wide man in a green tee...sigh...he was a better wall then window...)
All the the dancing fools went from a hole between tables at the back of the room to the thin line between the band and the tables making photography a wee bit difficult. (Making me nervous that someone would knock a microphone into somebody's teeth.)
Weezy arrived after her stand-up duties as M.C. for the Boys & Girls Club Comedy Kids Gig.
She arrived too late for a seat with us in the SRO room but enjoyed watching John’s drum antics
from a side stool near Bob. (You see, our dear Weezy is a drummer-in-training, constantly trying to perfect her skills. Who better to study then an old pro like Johnny C? LOL!)
It was so nice to be back to the F&H that I may or may not have caught all the tunes
and I may have missed a lead change or two.
Nevertheless, here’s my best guess…
1) I’ll Be Back
2) Tequlia Sunrise
3) So Tired Of Waiting
4) I Need You
5) Sundown
6) You’re Going To Lose That Girl
7) TRTPAOT
8) Wild World
9) I’ll Follow The Sun
10) Nowhere Man
11) Bus Stop
12) Sweet Caroline
13) I’m A Loser (Tim Bryson on harmonica)
14) And I Love Her
15) Blue Bayou (John on lead vocal)
16) I’m Into Something Good (OMG! No complaints about Herman’s Hermits songs being simplistic! )
17) No Reply
18) Peaceful, Easy Feeling
19) Ruby Tuesday
20) Day Tripper (Danny on drums while John played tamb...)
21) You Can’t Do That (Dan on drums AND on lead vocal)
22) Mr. Soul (ROCKIN' tune and John was back to his kit for the rest of the night...)
23) Sunshine Superman
24) Something
25) Don’t Worry Baby (Randell on lead and with guitar…Beach Boys, Scott played and sang back-up too…)
26) I Can Hear Music (John on lead and OMG! I ADORE this Beach Boys song!)
27) No Matter What
28) Some Kind Of Wonderful (ROBEEEE! Yes, and Randell too!)
29) Cinnamon Girl
30) Brown Sugar
31) Birthday (Of which there were several that night…)
32) Honky Tonk Woman
33) You Really Got Me
34) Lies
35) Roll Over Beethoven (Bobby G - YEOW!)
36) Eight Days A Week
37) You Won’t See Me
38) HAIR
39) I Saw Her Standing There
40) Bang A Gong (John was having a GOOD time wailing on the drums!)
41) Hang On Sloopy
42) Hard Days Night
Well? What do you think? Pretty adequate list of rock and pop classics?
Yep. Me too.
Now for our quiz question:
Which song on our set list would normally have a part for a recorder? (Anyone else play those in elementary school?)
Now, imagine if you will, a Bobby McFerrin-esque man who playes drums, sings lead,
does alien voices (and readily admits to being a twelve year old still) providing the voice-over recorder parts to said song. ;D
It was indeed another memorable night at ye olde pub!
Till next time,
