:'(I've been bed ridden with asthma, bronchitus, & pneumonia, and yes i know thats not how you spell it, lol but who cares at this point. I was lying in bed thursday night & just looked at the clock wondering why my son hasn't come home yet. He is a hard worker, a supervisor at a nursing home kitchen. He is a chef also. At 19, I'm very proud of him. Had a beautiful car which he never missed a payment on and kept his car in mint condition. I must say he was obsessed with his "baby" as he called it. I heard sirens go by, and of course everytime I do I always think of my children and hope they are ok. 15 mins later, my phone rings and its him saying to me " mommy , I really need you right now. I knew something was wrong and I paniced of course right away. The ems worker came on and I lost it. Somebody ran my son off the road and he went into a ditch, how the car didn't flip over we don't know, but he walked out without a bruise. But the car is totalled. He was rushed to the hopital and I had to go, with me being sick in bed and all, without even flicking an eye I went to be with my baby. He was in a neck brace though, but he is fine. He cried so hard and it broke my heart to see him cry when we to look at the car yesterday. But know one knows how he didn't even get a broken bone. God had to be with him, of course or some angel. Cause it wasn't possible. He just missed a tree, telephone pole, and a ditch. And the person who ran him off the road kept going and didn't care. How in God's name could this person sleep knowing what he did and not know if that person was dead or hurt? I hope they can find this person but I highly doubt it since there was know discription. And the police had the nerve to say to my son that he was drag racing. But my son denied and wouldn't let them win, cause my son is a very good driver, very maticulus about his car, and everyone in town knows how much he loves his car. And knows what a good head on his shoulders he has for his age. He is not stupid but a very smart responsible person. And thats that. lol I'm not just saying this cause he is my son but thats who he really is. Now I have to get better real fast and help him get out to get him another nice car. ugh. I'm tired now. Need to get some sleep. And through all this I have NOT stopped thinking about the Cowsills. I love You All, Sweeties. Love Maureen

Wow and I thought I had a bad day Thursday. Sorry to hear you are so sick. Get well soon. So sorry to hear your son got ran off the road. It sounds like something that would happen in Spokane. I sure can understand the concern about your boy. I too have a boy and a girl. The boy is 23 and the girl is 21. Year before last my son accidently hit a deer and ruined his car. So I know how you and him feel. Iam so glad that he wasnt hurt. Kittygirlsmom (Lee)

Maureen, I'm so sorry to hear about your son's car. But cars can be replaced. I'm thrilled to hear that your son is fine. There was an angel watching out for him.

Maureen, I'm so sorry to hear about your son's car. But cars can be replaced. I'm thrilled to hear that your son is fine. There was an angel watching out for him. As Sandy said, it's good to be able to count your blessings, considering what 'could have been'. Take care of yourself Maureen and get well soon. Your son is young and he's got a lot of life in front of him. His guardian angel was flying with him and will continue to watch over him, car or no car.

Get well soon and his car is replaceable, he isn't. That is an amazing story and any of the things he narrowly missed could have killed him. He most definitely had his guardian angel riding with him or as they say "God was his co-pilot". As a parent I can imagine your fear and anxiety over this. We hold their hands to cross a street, watch over them, take care of them and one day they get their license. They get into a car and take off beyond our view or reach. I remember the first time Brianne did (she's 19). I said a prayer as I watched her go. Of course she had to call me as soon as she got to her destination!

Thank you all so very much for all your concerns and kind words! I too, said the same thing, I'm so greatful & thank God for him not getting hurt. Yes there was a guardian angel watching over him or the Lord. Or all of them. I told him the same thing the car can be replaced not him. And he could have been seriously hurt. So I think he knows now. Thanks again everyone! Love Maureen

Wow, Maureen, I know what you mean. My #2 son had a teeny tiny fender bender the week after he got his new car. No damage, and the lady was VERY sympathetic...didn't even call it in to insurance. But my son was extremely shaken up. And, of course, I reacted badly...looked at the car first. Sheesh. Then I asked him how he was...he cried and I held him...all 6'3" of him. :-)
I'm so glad your son wasn't hurt. There are all kinds of idiots who should never get behind the wheel of a car. They use it as a lethal weapon. God was watching over your baby! Whew!
And YOU get better! This "crud" has crept through my house to everyone but me. 8-{ But it wasn't nearly what you had. Get well.

Maureen, What a lucky escape for your son. I'm sure there was some skill, and good instincts that will continue to keep your son safe, involved in missing the worst of the targets, too, but you don't really remember the detail in moments of high stress. And I'm sure the tears were more shock than grief over a heap of metal.
As for home remedies, I swear by hot water with plenty of fresh lemon and ginger. Antiseptic, boosts the immune system and of course loads of vit C.

For what it's worth, Maureen, my experience is that most forms of heat need some electricity. When we lived through "The Ice Storm" (remember that film - that was filmed in New Canaan and the setting an ice storm that struck about a week before Christmas my senior year in HS), my mom's oil heating went off because it needed electric for the pump. Ditto all the home water systems that were not on town water. I suspect my present gas central heating needs an electric spark for the boiler to work, as well as the timer and thermostat.
Keep in touch, your health problems are worrying. a few days in hospital might be a very very good idea.

Sounds like you have a great sense of humor and that will see you through all this stuff. As we get a little older we come to realize what is important in life and what isn't--an accident when I was younger would have been such a big deal to me but now, it would just be an inconvenience. Thank God your son wasn't injured. His car can be replaced. No matter how old our kids are, we still worry about them, eh?! Hope you feel better very soon. Judy
